About Us

So who is this metal artist?

My name is Glen Porter, and I grew up in the Southern California area.  I have always enjoyed drawing aircraft and even designed one and did the engineering required to build and fly it.

After high school, I entered the Marine Corps as a Private and then retired some 24 years later as the Executive Officer of a Marine Corps Squadron.  During that time, I never lost my interest in drawing but had little time to pursue it while collecting several advanced degrees.

Now 40 years after joining the Marine Corps, I have the time and the interest to again create art that has both form and purpose.

My Business Philosophy

I enjoy what I now have the time and opportunity to do.  Each metal art project that I create is a labor of love.  I strive to create metal art that is extremely acurate.  I hope that you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it.

Our Employees

After retiring from the Marine Corps, I managed a very large general aviation airport for many years.  Following that, I started an aviation fuel service that sold avgas and jet fuel.  In both of those endeavors, I had quite a few employees.

Now, I have none and life has never been simpler.

U. S. Metal Cutting, Metal Art Works

U. S. Metal Cutting, Metal Art Works is a play on words.  Like many Marines, I can't just walk away from the Corps.  So when it came time to name my endeavor, I took USMC and made U. S. Metal Cutting and Marine Air Wing became Metal Art Works.

My Studio

A picture of the metal studio would be boring.  So I'll tell you that I use CNC cutters to cut the shapes out, then do everything else by hand.  What's more imortant is where my inspriation comes from.  Great sunsets, coyotes walking by the house, our quail and road runners in the late afternoon and even a bobcat on ocassion.  Then on one special evening my wife of almost 40 years and I had the privledge of watching a mountain lion pass by the ridge line just behind our home.
